Initial Evaluation Test

Access to our three-year degree courses requires some basic skills relating to the understanding and use of scientific language, including the representations and notations of mathematics, taking into account the National Indications and the Guidelines for high schools. The verification of these skills takes place for all enrolled students by means of a test (Initial Evaluation Test). The test does not give the right to educational credits and a possible negative result does not affect participation in the courses. Students who do not pass or do not take the test are assigned remedial training obligations to be completed before taking exams (in any case, within the first year of the course). The test takes place online and consists of a questionnaire with 20 questions relating to understanding and use of texts in Italian and the representations and notations of mathematics. The maximum duration of the test is 40mins (with the exception of applicants eligible for time extensions).

The test will take place as part of a Google Meet videoconference; each participant must have a device that allows both participation in the videoconference and work on the University platform. The device must be positioned in such a way as to frame the student and the work surface. All participants must present an identity document by screen on the day of the test.

An online meeting with freshers will take place on 25 October at 5 pm to illustrate the skills required in the test and how the DIR platform works.

To actively participate (to ask questions), connect to the Zoom platform (Passcode: 072874). If the maximum number of participants is reached, this will not be possible to access.

The meeting is broadcast on DiSIT's YouTube channel

Participation in the meeting is optional.

All students are required to take the test. However, those who have already taken this test at their secondary school in 2021/2022 in collaboration with DiSIT in the academic year are exempt, as well as those who, transferring from another course, have obtained validation of credits. All other students are invited to take the test.

Anyone in possession of a certification attesting to a Specific Learning Disorder (SLD) and consequently entitled to additional time for carrying out the test, is invited to contact this office immediately: servizi.studenti@uniupo.it, attaching a copy of the certification.

Each candidate may use a non-scientific calculator.

Before participating in the test, each student must:

  • check that their enrolment is confirmed
  • have logged in to the https://esami.dir.uniupo.it/ platform using their matriculation number and the password chosen when registering on the online services platform at the time of pre-enrolment.

To participate in the test, the student must register on Esse3:

• for Alessandria INITIAL KNOWLEDGE the code is MF0435

• for Vercelli INITIAL KNOWLEDGE code MF0436

For the test date of 16.05.2022, it will be possible to book until 13.05.2022

To carry out the test it is recommended you use a computer equipped with a webcam. For technical reasons, the use of mobile devices is strongly discouraged. If you intend to participate in the test with a mobile device, it will be essential to have a second device available for webcam use.

Each student may participate in a maximum of one session among those scheduled between September and November. Starting in January, there will be more repeat sessions for those who have not passed the test on the first attempt. Repeat sessions can be attended multiple times.

The remedial activity provided for those who fail the test include online courses, with the possibility of face-to-face meetings. The calendar of these courses will be published on the DiSIT page

Those who have not passed the test in the first or second round will be able to follow the remedial course "Basic knowledge" in the coming months.

Check upoplanner for the dates, times and classroom of the course for students from Alessandria and Vercelli.

Alessandria: first lesson 13 October at 2pm in room 102
Vercelli: first lesson 20 October at 4pm in auditorium Sacro Cuore.
